The wireless telecommunications industry has an opportunity to protect citizens and provide value to cellular telephone users by implementing a cost effective software for cell phones users called Global Mobile Alert.  This innovative new patent life-saving software warns motorists when they are approaching a traffic signal.

And if wireless providers do not take voluntary action, crusaders who have targeted the multi-billion dollar cell phone community may convince legislatures to impose harsh safety measures that could cost the telcom giants a fortune. One way to synergize responsible solutions is to establish alliances with other industries that have a vested interest, such as automobile insurance companies.  By offering discounts to drivers using safety devices with cell phones, insurance moguls could attract new policy holders while making city streets safer at the same time.

In recent years, some local governments have enacted laws banning the use of cellular phones while driving. Other cities have put restrictions on their use, such as requiring drivers to use an "ear bud" or a hands-free phone.

These laws have been highly publicized, and more municipalities have been talking about enacting similar laws. These laws were thought to be the only way city governments could ensure public safety from unsafe drivers on cellular telephones. In other words, it is easier to ban the use of cellular phones while driving than to deal with the issue. In the near future it is possible that cellular telephone use while driving will be outlawed in the U.S., a solution that makes the wireless industry shutter and that most people dont want.

In America, the practice of protecting citizens goes far beyond having the mightiest military or the best-trained and well-equipped law enforcement in the world.  In the United States there are regulations on seemingly everything from gun control to the use of bicycle helmets.  At some level of government, we are told what we can or cannot do, and often how to do it or how not to do it.  Under pressure from corporate political action committees, special interest and advocacy groups, legislators tend to do what comes naturally which is to legislate.

The more laws we have the fewer freedoms we enjoy.  Over-legislating is eroding the most fundamental and precious principle upon which America was founded.  Often, legislation directed at a tiny portion of society creates restrictions for many.  Countless ineffective and unenforceable laws are being passed.  But government does have an obligation to protect, suggesting a need for balancing responsibility with what is effective without being burdensome.

The new Global Mobile Alert   offers a cost-effective solution that can be the central component of a local or state government strategy to protect motorists and pedestrians.  This system does not require intrusive legislation, and will not adversely affect anyone other than cell phone users who are driving carelessly.  Government will not have to act if the wireless industry acts first.
